DBL-Kotzenberg Textilservice makes the final step in the laundry process more efficient with Bandall

DBL-Kotzenberg Textilservice is a German family business specialising in workwear and corporate textiles. As part of the DBL Group, a successful network of regional textile service companies, the company manages the entire textile process for its customers: from collecting workwear to washing, maintaining and returning it.

A streamlined process handling tens of thousands of garments every week

Every week, DBL-Kotzenberg Textilservice processes many tens of thousands of garments. Once the clothing has been washed and folded, it is bundled, labelled and neatly stacked in roll containers, ready for transport to the customer.

Previously, the company used shrink film and separate labels to bundle and identify the laundry. Several years ago, Kotzenberg switched to banding. With a band, the laundry can be bundled and labelled at the same time using an integrated printer.

The switch to banding brought several advantages: less packaging material, lower energy consumption, bundling and labelling in a single operation, and a more sustainable presentation towards customers.

The search for a reliable banding solution

Kotzenberg was already convinced of banding as a packaging solution, so when a new machine was needed, choosing another banding machine was the natural choice. At the same time, the company deliberately chose to bring an additional supplier on board, broadening its supplier base and strengthening long-term security of supply.

At a trade fair in Frankfurt, Kotzenberg came into contact with Bandall. The capabilities of the Bandall machines and their ability to integrate with the existing production process ultimately convinced the company to choose a Bandall solution.

Seamless communication with the folding machine

The Bandall machine is integrated into the existing production process and communicates with the Kannegiesser folding machine. As soon as a stack of garments has been assembled and folded, it is automatically fed into the banding machine.

There, the stack is securely bundled with a paper band and immediately provided with the required customer or employee information. The bundle can then be placed in the correct roll container.

Consistent print positioning

One practical advantage that Kotzenberg experiences every day is the consistent positioning of the printed information on the band.

“With Bandall, the printed information is always in the same position, neatly on top of the bundle. With our previous machine, the printing appeared in a different position each time. It may seem like a small detail, but in our production process it makes a big difference.”

This ensures that the information remains clearly visible, allowing employees to easily check and sort the bundles.

Installation and on site training

Kotzenberg was positively surprised by how smoothly the installation and commissioning process went. Programming the machine went well, and according to the company, the cooperation between Kannegiesser and Bandall was excellent.

“The commissioning process went extremely well. Programming was smooth and the cooperation between everyone involved was very pleasant. We have experienced things differently with other installations in the past. Our employees also received clear instructions on how to use the machine, feed the banding material and operate the machine on a daily basis.”

Support before and after the purchase

Kotzenberg is also positive about both the process leading up to the purchase and the support provided afterwards. Questions were answered quickly, and Bandall actively helped determine the best way to integrate the solution into the existing production process.

“We really cannot say anything negative. Before the purchase, our questions were answered thoroughly and everything was handled with care. The support is also very good. Whenever we have a question, we receive a quick response.”
